Women’s Preseason 2025/26
The best way to get involved in the club early and make lasting friendships!
What is Preseason?
Preseason is one of the best opportunities you will have to get a head start both socially and in your hockey.
It allows us to welcome you into the club right from the beginning to assess your hockey level (we absolutely welcome beginners too!) and place you on the right team. Throughout the week there is a mix of hockey training and socials to keep you busy and ensure you have a fun time. Preseason is especially good for bonding with new and old members so we highly encourage everyone to take part.
FAQs
-
The 25/26 preseason will take place from the 16-20th of September.
-
You are guaranteed a place at one of our members houses - usually exec members. This is another great way to make bonds with older girls in the club who you will be living with for the duration of preseason.
-
If you have your own stick/goalie kit them please bring it! However, this is not an expectation and we are happy to provide you equipment for preseason. If you are expecting to be a long term player we highly encourage you to eventually buy your own - but again this is not needed for preseason.
-
Preseason is free for anyone to join in on! The only costs we expect you to pay is for your own food and drinks.
-
The best way is to join our Freshers FB page linked above! You will get direct updates there. If you would like to talk to someone more directly message our Vice President Harriet Nicholl at: email: harriet.nicholl@warwick.ac.uk or dm at @harrietttnicholl or our Club Instagram at @warwickwomenshockey

Don’t worry at all! We will be running lots of fun sessions of hockey over freshers week and beyond for you to join in on. We would like to stress that attending preseason absolutely does not bias our decisions during trial and you absolutely have a fair shot at playing on whichever team you might want to aim for, regardless of if you attended preseason beforehand. We have current 1s players who did not attend preseason prior to joining University, and players who attended preseason who enjoy playing in our 3rd team, preseason welcomes all ranging abilities, including beginners.
Hear from last year’s Preseason Freshers:
“I loved preseason and would definitely recommend it, as it made settling into university so much easier. It was such a great way to get back into hockey and experience what uni life would be like. A highlight for me was meeting and spending time with the other freshers. It was super nice to have people I already knew to go to Freshers’ Week events with and they’ve since become some of my closest friends at uni."
Eesha, 3s player and Welfare Officer
“Preseason last year was so much fun to get to know other incoming freshers and existing members of the club. It made coming to uni after so much easier and much less stressful! The hockey and socials were so fun don’t miss out!”
Lucy, 1s Captain
“Taking part in UWWHC’s preseason was arguably one of the best things I did in first year! Althought it can be slightly daunting it really did help in Freshers’ Week knowing I’d already have friendly faces to explore campus with and get an extra taste of what uni life and playing hockey at Warwick is like. You also get to speak to some other freshers from other sports clubs which also helps for Freshers Week so I would definitely recommend.”
